Marking his first anniversary in office, Hon. Bright Afure Abeke, Executive Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, on Tuesday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to development, collaboration, and people-driven governance.
The commemorative event, held at the Sapele Local Government Secretariat, attracted an impressive turnout of dignitaries, community leaders, party executives, religious figures, and members of the press, all gathered to reflect on a year of leadership and progress.
Welcomed with cheers and applause, Chairman Abeke acknowledged the role of key stakeholders in the administration’s achievements. Expressing appreciation to his wife, Chief Mrs. Diana Abeke, the Vice Chairman, councillors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, APC executives, and the media, he declared
“It is with profound humility and immense gratitude that I address you today—not just to mark the passage of time, but to celebrate shared progress and the unwavering spirit of our people.”
He credited divine guidance as a critical source of strength throughout the past twelve months
“First and foremost, I give all glory to God Almighty for His divine guidance and strength. Without His grace, this journey would have been insurmountable.”
Abeke also lauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his inclusive style of governance under the MORE Agenda, noting the administration’s support as instrumental to Sapele’s ongoing transformation.
“Your trust and steadfast support have enabled us to pursue our vision for a more prosperous Sapele.”
Reviewing his first year in office, the chairman listed several accomplishments, including strides in education, healthcare, road rehabilitation, youth empowerment, and improved transparency in governance. He stressed that these projects were designed based on community input and the real needs of residents.
“Each initiative has been born from the voices of the people and executed with their welfare at heart.”
Acknowledging that the work ahead remains significant, Abeke reminded attendees of the need for patience and perseverance.
“Rome was not built in a day.”
He called for continued collaboration from all sectors—traditional rulers, youth groups, market women, civil society organizations, and private sector actors—to ensure the momentum of progress is sustained.
“Only together can we overcome challenges and restore Sapele to its rightful place of envy and glamour.”
According to him, the strength of Sapele lies not in its physical resources but in its people. He praised their resilience, creativity, and unity, which he described as critical ingredients in rebuilding the local government’s image and potential.
The anniversary celebration featured award presentations to individuals and community groups who have shown outstanding dedication to local development. These recognitions, the chairman said, were a reflection of his administration’s commitment to rewarding service and encouraging civic responsibility.
Concluding the event, Abeke expressed appreciation to all who have contributed to his administration’s journey so far—through support, constructive criticism, or active participation.
“Let us move forward with renewed hope, unwavering faith, and a shared commitment to building a brighter, more prosperous Sapele.”
The celebration, while reflective of past gains, also set the tone for continued engagement and action.
As the curtains closed on the event, Chairman Abeke left no doubt about his vision: unity and partnership remain the pillars upon which the future of Sapele must be built. He also called on residents to rally behind the Renewed Hope for MORE Agenda Project ahead of the 2027 elections.
