As April 29, 2025 approaches, marking two years since Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori assumed office as the Executive Governor of Delta State, the moment calls for a thoughtful reflection on his journey so far.
Governed by the principles of the MORE Agenda—Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security—his administration has steadily translated campaign promises into tangible progress across the state.
Governor Oborevwori began his tenure amid public skepticism, but his dedication to inclusive development and pragmatic leadership has started to shift perceptions.
The state has witnessed visible transformations, especially in infrastructure, where road construction and rehabilitation efforts have connected neglected communities and eased urban congestion.
The Warri/Effurun Stormwater Drainage Project is also a notable intervention, addressing perennial flooding issues that have long hampered Delta’s economic activities.
Meanwhile, the modernization of the Asaba International Airport is gradually turning the facility into a thriving regional aviation hub, reinforcing the state’s role in regional commerce and connectivity.
Economic revitalization remains another focal point of the administration. Through a deliberate investment and industrialization drive, the state government has attracted partnerships in vital sectors such as oil and gas, solid minerals, and agro-processing.
These investments, anchored by public-private partnerships, are promoting economic diversification and job creation.
Although more can still be done, especially in expanding industrial capacity, the current momentum reflects purposeful governance.
Education has not been left behind. Recognizing that knowledge and skills are vital to long-term development, the Oborevwori administration has embarked on rebuilding school infrastructure, equipping learning centers with modern facilities, and upgrading tertiary institutions such as DELSU, UNIDEL, and Western Delta University.
Vocational and technical education are also receiving attention, with the aim of empowering young people with practical skills to thrive in a dynamic economy.
Healthcare delivery is being strengthened through expanded access to affordable services under the Delta State Health Contributory Insurance Scheme.
Renovation of health facilities, provision of essential equipment, and targeted medical outreach programs have brought healthcare closer to rural and underserved communities, with particular focus on maternal and child care.
Security, a foundation for sustainable development, has also seen renewed emphasis. Despite national insecurity, Delta State remains relatively stable, thanks to strong collaboration with security agencies, digital surveillance investments, and ongoing dialogue with community leaders, traditional rulers, and ex-agitators.
This has fostered a climate of peace and reduced tensions across previously volatile areas.
In the area of social welfare, Governor Oborevwori has consistently demonstrated that good governance must be people-centered. Youth and women empowerment initiatives have delivered seed funding, vocational training, and startup kits to thousands, though concerns about political interference in the process call for better oversight. Relief and support to flood-affected communities, including the provision of shelters and essential supplies, also underscore the administration’s responsiveness to emergencies and vulnerable populations.
In all, the Governor’s approach to governance is marked by vision, action, and compassion.
While the journey is far from over and challenges remain, it is clear that the MORE Agenda is steadily becoming a lived reality in the lives of ordinary Deltans. As Governor Oborevwori marks his second year in office, he does so with the confidence of progress made and the promise of even greater achievements ahead.
