A rival cult group on Friday night shot dead a 200 level student of the University of Benin during the Faculty of Social Sciences Final Year Jean Carnival.

The deceased, identified as Africionado, a popular vibrant young man, was murdered by a rival cult group.
Eyewitnesses said a gunshot fired into the crowded venue of the carnival caused panic and a few minutes later the body of Africionado was lying on the ground in a pool of his blood.
Following the incident, the varsity authority immediately placed a ban on all social activities on campus.
Aficionado was shot dead at 6pm during the jean carnival organised for final-year students of the Faculty of Arts at the Twin-Lecture Theatre.
Spokesman for the university, Mr. Micheal Osasuyi, said security men had been placed on red alert to avoid reprisal.
The killing of Aficionado was said to have caused panic as students scampered for safety when they heard gunshots.
Meanwhile, there is uneasy calm on the campus even as students fled hostels amidst heavy security presence.
