A student seeking university admission, Segun, has been trending on Twitter after he threatened to commit suicide, following his score of 167 in the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
On his Twitter handle on Sunday, Segun tweeted, “2015 – 189, 2016 – 202, 2017 – 233. It is now when people want to send me to school that I will now score 167 in UTME? 167??! LMFAO Make I close eyes pick answers sef…Me?? 167?? Meanwhile, I will be teaching y’all how to make tea with Sniper by 9pm live on Twitter. Tune in.”
Segun had in October 2018 shared his life story on Twitter while asking people to help him. He revealed that his father had died and his mother was the sole provider for him and three half-siblings.
Segun alleged that, after his dad’s death, his grandmother advised his mother to remarry and have more children because he was the only child.
His mother listened and remarried, having three children afterwards. However, the marriage broke down and his step-father abandoned the entire family, leaving his teacher-mother to cater for four young children.
Because of his mother’s inability to cater for him and his half-siblings, he had to fend for himself by working at a pharmacy shop.
He started writing UTME in 2015, and between then and 2018, his marks kept improving, but there was no financial wherewithal to take care of his admission when he was allegedly offered the admission to read Medicine. He did not state which university offered him the admission.
Segun’s cry for help attracted the attention of social media influencer, Adegoke Pamilerin, who offered to finance his education.
His story took a dramatic turn, however, as he scored 167 in the 2019 UTME, a score that may be too low to secure admission into university, or for a reasonable course.
Segun declared that he had had enough and threatened to take sniper tea.
Again, Segun’s threat attracted the attention of his benefactor, who tracked him down and took him to a hospital that a Twitter follower identified as being in Sagamu, Ogun State.
