Natalia Veselnitskaya: Trump Jr. said his father would rid Russia of 2012 sanctions

The Russian lawyer who met with US President Donald Trump’s oldest son last year says he indicated that his father would be willing to reconsider sanctions imposed on Moscow in 2012.
Natalia Veselnitskaya made the comments in an interview with Bloomberg in the Russian capital Moscow on Monday.
In the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Veselnitskaya met with Donald Trump Jr., as well as President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and then campaign manager Paul Manafort in New York.
The meeting has played a key role in an ongoing investigation for possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, an allegation both sides have dismissed.
On June 9, 2016, Veselnitskaya met with them to talk to them about the Democrats’ next move on the anti-Russia Magnitsky Act.
“Looking ahead, if we come to power, we can return to this issue and think what to do about it,’’ Trump Jr. said of the 2012 law, according to the Russian lawyer. “I understand our side may have messed up, but it’ll take a long time to get to the bottom of it.”

Trump Jr. has already admitted before congressional investigators that he talked to the lawyer for dirt on his father’s contender, Democrat Hillary Clinton.
"It was quite difficult for me to understand what she was saying or why," he told them in September. "Given our busy schedules, we politely asked if she could be more specific and provide more clarity about her objective for the meeting."

In a declassified report released in January, the intelligence community concluded that Russia helped with the New York billionaire’s campaign effort ahead of winning the White House, an allegation dismissed both by Moscow and Trump.
Reports emerged in June that Trump’s Jewish son-in-law was also present at the meeting with the Russian lawyer at Trump Tower in the summer of 2016.
The meeting had been arranged by Trump Jr. in an effort to find damaging information about Clinton.
Veselnitskaya has agreed to appeared before the investigators on condition that her statements be made public.
