US President Donald Trump has launched an attack on the hosts of MSNBC's “Morning Joe” in two vicious tweets, after they sharply criticized his administration's dysfunction in a segment of the show.
“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore),” Trump tweeted Thursday, referring to Mika Brzezinski and co-host Joe Scarborough.
“Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!” Trump added.
The tweets were the latest in a series of attacks launched by Trump this week on several mainstream media outlets, including CNN, ABC, The New York Times and The Washington Post.
Trump wrote the vicious remarks after Brzezinski had suggested the president was psychologically unhinged.
“Everybody in Washington, in the administration, needs to look at this from... a point of view where they're not lobotomized because you're sitting in there and you're so scared of him, and you think you need to suck up to the president,” she said.
She also said that if a boss at NBC, MSNBC's parent company, “started tweeting wildly about people's appearances, bullying people, talking about people in the competition, lying every day, undermining his managers, throwing them under the (bus) -- that person would be thrown out.”
“It's just not normal behavior,” she said. “In fact, there would be concerns that the person who runs the company is out of his mind.”
Brzezinski responded to Trump’s tweet with a post of her own, a photo of a young child reaching for Cheerios cereal. The picture caption read, “Made for little hands," appearing to mock the size of the president’s hands.

Scarborough re-tweeted a comment from CNN reporter Jake Tapper, “This reminds me: how is @FLOTUS's campaign against cyber-bullying going?” it said. The tweet referred to First Lady Melania Trump.
Trump was often interviewed on “Morning Joe” aired from MSNBC during the 2016 presidential campaign.
MSNBC responded to Twitter tirade by saying the president is putting personal grudges over the job he was elected to do.
"It’s a sad day for America when the president spends his time bullying, lying and spewing petty personal attacks instead of doing his job," an MSNBC spokesperson said in a statement to The Times on Thursday.
The tweets drew immediate criticism from lawmakers from both political parties.
Republican Senators Lindsey Graham wrote: “Mr. President, your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America.” Senator Ben Sasse tweeted: “Please just stop. This isn't normal and it's beneath the dignity of your office.”
Trump has repeatedly used the term "fake news" largely for any coverage criticizing him or his administration.
“The Fake News media is officially out of control. They will do or say anything in order to get attention - never been a time like this!” the president said in one of his tweets.
