Joe Biden speaks of US ‘ugliest realities’ in the wake of 2016 vote

Former Vice President Joe Biden has warned of “the ugliest realities” exposed in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory as the president of the United States, calling on the nation to unite.
The Democratic political veteran made the comments during a commencement address at Colby College in the US state of Maine Sunday, months after his party’s nominee, Hillary Clinton, lost the 2016 presidential vote.
Biden blasted negativity and divisiveness, asserting, “It’s time for America to get up. It’s time to regain our sense of unity and purpose. It’s time for us to start realizing who in God’s name we are.”
The 74-year-old Democrat recently acknowledged that Clinton, whose nomination led to suspension of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders’ campaign, was not the best option Democrats had.

"I never thought she was a great candidate. I thought I was a great candidate," Biuden, who never entered the 2016 race, said at the SALT hedge fund conference in Las Vegas earlier this month.
Sanders’ supporters believed that he could whip up enough support among the American people to keep the White House blue but Clinton was nominated despite being unpopular even within the party.
In his commencement speech, former President Barrack Obama’s once running mate voiced hope for a better future.
“I assure you it’s temporary. I assume it’s transitory. The American people will not sustain this attitude,” he said.
Meanwhile, the current US vice president, Mike Pence, was busy with a similar commencement address at the University of Notre Dame, where some students reportedly walked out.
Biden’s comments came at a time that the Trump administration was battling with a series of controversies that could ultimately pave the way for his possible impeachment.
