Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to hold first press conference since reelection

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani gives his first live televised speech on May 20, 2017, a day after his election victory and winning a second term in office through presidential polls.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to hold his first press conference in the presence of representatives of domestic and foreign media since his landslide election victory and winning a second term in office.
During the presser on Monday, the newly-elected president would talk about leading issues in the country, particularly after the Iranians' massive turnout in the 12th presidential election and the 5th City and Village Councils Elections, the president's deputy chief of staff for communications and information, Parviz Esmaeili, said on Sunday.
He added that President Rouhani would also highlight the country's positions on the latest regional and international developments.
The presser is scheduled to start at 17:00 local time (1230 GMT), he noted.
Iranian President Rouhani won a resounding reelection victory on Saturday with 23,549,616 votes or 57 percent of the total ballots. His nearest rival in the four-man race, Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, secured 15,786,449 votes, or 38.5 percent.
Iran's 12th presidential election and the 5th City and Village Councils Elections were held simultaneously on Friday at some 63,500 polling stations inside the country and 310 others in 102 countries.
In his first televised speech on Saturday following his landslide election victory, Rouhani said the Iranian nation has chosen the path of interaction with the rest of the world devoid of violence and extremism.
Iranians clearly and explicitly sent their message to the world through the Friday elections, he said, adding, "Our nation wants to live in peace and friendship with the world, but at the same time, it will accept no humiliation or threat."
During his first four-year term in office, Rouhani held 10 news conferences, the last one dated back to April 10.
