Moscow 'full of patience' waiting for US action on Russia ties

The Kremlin says Moscow is patiently waiting for an action by the administration of US President Donald Trump that defines Washington's policy on Russia.
"We have heard different statements from President Trump," Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said during a conference call with reporters on Wednesday.
"We are full of patience and are waiting for some kind of actions to follow these statements that will allow us to understand ... the perspectives for bilateral relations," the Russian official stated.
Peskov's remarks followed Trump's address to Congress on Tuesday, during which he apparently hinted at his readiness to restore relations with Moscow although he did not mention Russia by name.
"America is willing to find new friends, and to forge new partnerships, where shared interests align," the US president told Congress.
It remains uncertain what the future of relations between Washington and Moscow will turn out to be.
On February 13, Trump's national security adviser Michael Flynn resigned over allegations that he had contacts with Russia.
Flynn stepped down just hours after reports surfaced that the US Justice Department had warned Trump that Flynn had lied regarding his communications with Russia's ambassador to Washington and was potentially vulnerable to blackmail by Moscow.
The communications, which took place well before Trump's inauguration, were mainly about lifting sanctions against Russia that were in place under the administration of former US President Barack Obama.
Obama had imposed the sanctions over allegations that Moscow interfered in the 2016 US presidential election.
