Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 7% nationally: Monmouth University Poll

US presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is leading over her Republican rival Donald Trump nationally and in the battleground states, a new poll shows.
The former secretary of state maintains a lead over Trump by seven percent, with the business mogul receiving 40 percent support among registered voters nationally, according to a Monmouth University poll released Monday.
Clinton is also ahead of Trump by eight points, getting 47 percent to 39 percent, in the 10 battleground states, the poll found.
The leading states were determined by a margin of seven percentage points or less in the 2012 election, when the candidate who won Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin beat his opponent by less than seven points.
President Barack Obama thrashed Republican nominee Mitt Romney in all of those states except for North Carolina.
“Clinton has the advantage as the general election campaign kicks off, particularly in key swing states,” said Monmouth pollster Patrick Murray. “However, all signs point to 2016 turning out the most polarized electorate in memory.”
In another poll released Friday, Clinton was ahead too with 45.5 percent support against Trump’s 34.8 percent, while 19.7 percent picked neither candidate.
On June 15, an ABC News/Washington Post survey also showed Trump is “unfavored” by the majority of American voters.
The poll showed that Trump is facing a growing popularity issue as seven in 10 Americans have unfavorable views of him, a 10-point rise since last month.
